Hello, Spotlighters, and welcome to a special COVID-19 Response edition! In the wake of this novel coronavirus, the City of Yuma, has accepted the challenge of providing its citizens with every essential service, while still limiting interpersonal interactions whenever possible. We are committed, just like you all, to slowing the spread of this virus, and keeping our City safe!

At the City of Yuma, our top priority is the safety and well-being of the people of Yuma. We know that even in the face of a global health crisis, many of our services simply cannot stop. Police, Fire, EMS, Electrical, Water and Wastewater, and Sanitation are examples of essential services that are directly tied to the health of our community. Those departments will continue to provide services, using all recommended personal protective equipment, and practicing social distancing in every possible instance.

Other behind-the-scenes projects are still happening at the City as well. They include, but are not limited to: asphalt patching, sewer cleaning and line maintenance, and improvements at the Yuma Swimming Pool, and Jeff Armstrong Ball Park. Parks and Recreation is preparing its facilities and staff, so regular activities can resume as soon as it is safe to do so. Those decisions will be made with the guidance of the State Government, as well as the Northeast Colorado Health Department.

Another important City program that is still being offered through the Yuma Community and Enrichment Center is Meet and Eat. Meals are now being delivered three days a week to folks who are 60 and older, and wish to take advantage of this opportunity. For more information on meal delivery to your home, or someone you know, contact Marleen Miller with the Area Agency on Aging at 970-848-2277.

City Hall remains closed to the public, but two drop boxes are available on the north side of the building for utility payments. Additionally, fees for online-payments are being temporarily absorbed by the City in an effort to accommodate a safe payment option for everyone. More information about utility bill payments, including the Delayed Payment Program, can be found online at www.yumacolo.org.

The City of Yuma is thankful for everyone’s diligence in doing their part to slow the spread. Your cooperation with guidelines and policies from State and Local governments, as well as the Health Department, will go a long way in keeping Yuma safe, and helping us get through this time.
