The City of Yuma is once again preparing to ring in the Holiday Season with our annual Winterfest celebration. Each year since 2013, the City has welcomed Santa Claus to town, and invited the community to help celebrate the season. And, each year an effort has been made to make Winterfest better by adding new and exciting wrinkles.

This year, the City is teaming up with the Chamber of Commerce to make Winterfest the best it’s ever been. The event will take place on Saturday, December 1st, and feature many activities both downtown, and at the Community Center.

One major change to the Winterfest schedule is the inaugural Parade of Lights that will travel up Main Street and end at the Yuma Community Center. The parade is set to begin at 5:30 PM, and everyone is invited to join by creating your own float, or simply enjoying the lights as they pass through downtown Yuma!

To start off the celebration at the Community Center, we will start off with a tree lighting ceremony, the Ministerial Alliance will once again host a soup supper fundraiser at 6:30 PM, with a performance from the YHS Jazz Band/Guitar group to follow. And of course, Saint Nick himself will be set up for visits and pictures throughout the evening.

There are plenty of other surprises in store for Winterfest 2018 that we can’t wait for everyone to see. For a full list of scheduled events, and more information, visit our refreshed website at www.yumacolo.org, and follow along with our social media.

In addition to all of the work that goes in to Winterfest, city crews are working to light up the town for Christmas. Many decorations are going up along Eighth Avenue, Main Street, and around Lake Yuma, that we sincerely hope will make the season bright for each of you. From all of us at the City of Yuma, have a very happy Thanksgiving, and a wonderful Holiday season!
