Yuma, Colo. – June 2, 2020:  In anticipation of the “Solidarity Matters” gathering at Veterans Park this evening, the City Manager, Scott Moore, would like to address the community through the following statement:

I am saddened by what happened to George Floyd in Minneapolis and support the gathering of the community in peaceful solidarity.  Unfortunately, because our community remains under the threat of COVID-19, we should practice caution when gathering in large crowds. The threat of COVID-19 is still a big concern and is still very much in our community.  Trish McClain, Director of Northeast Colorado Health Department notes that “Yuma County has seen over a 50% increase of positive cases in the last week and we do not want to put any more added pressure on our small health system with a potential ‘super-spreading’ event”.  Therefore, the City encourages those attending the Solidary Matters gathering to follow Centers for Disease Control guidelines of social distancing and wearing masks. So, please wear your mask, maintain 6 feet between individuals who are not of the same household, wash your hands and bring your hand sanitizer.

The City recognizes the rights of our community to gather to show solidarity and encourages everyone to do so peacefully and respectfully, while remaining mindful about personal and close interactions.
